It’s with much sadness we share with the Ski Aspen community the news that Karen Dalton passed away last Friday after losing her courageous battle with cancer.
Remembering Karen Dalton
Warren and Karen Dalton first joined Ski Aspen in 2007. Their infectious smiles and quirky sense of humour resonated with everyone and they quickly became “tour favourites”. I know I speak for all when I say that a tour with Warren and Karen was always a lot of fun.
Warren and Karen joined us in Aspen several times over the years to follow and most recently in 2015. It had been their great wish for Karen to get well enough so they could have a white Christmas at the end of this year and then ski in Aspen again in January 2017. Sadly this wasn’t to be.
Everyone that knew Karen will have their own fond memories of her. I’m fortunate to have many from our time together in Aspen. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that loved skiing Long Shot at Snowmass more that Karen. Warren and I remembered this fondly last week and it really dawned on me just how special those incredible days in Aspen had been for them both. Even when I used to coax Karen further into the trees and the deeper powder snow than she really wanted to go!
Another memory – and something most people won’t know – is that our video analysis review / après party format was actually started by Karen. Many of you will recall we consistently held the video analysis review in the CD 12. We used this unit because it always had the biggest TV and the open floor plan worked well. In 2010, Warren and Karen shared the CD 12 with Sam (Aarons) and Mary (Marlow). Karen couldn’t see the point in having everyone around to watch ski videos without putting on a spread of snacks and drinks and it wasn’t difficult getting Sam and Mary to buy into that! And so our video analysis après parties were born.
And of course we’ll never forget the very popular and deserving winner of the Most Improved Female Skier Award on Tour # 2, 2015.
From all at Ski Aspen – guides and guests alike – we’ll really miss you Karen. I can’t wait to get back to Long Shot and ski that run of yours just for you – and I’m sure I’ll have plenty of mates. Our condolences and support go out to Warren, your family and friends.
Love always
Your Ski Aspen family
