Start your ski holiday at Aspen Buttermilk

After the journey to Colorado’s best ski resort, it’s a great idea to spend your first day at Aspen Buttermilk.

Home to the winter X games, a huge terrain park and the biggest super-pipe, Aspen Buttermilk is known for hosting major park and elite events. However, there is another side to Aspen Buttermilk too. It’s also known as one of the best beginner and intermediate mountains with very progressive terrain from green through to black. It’s for this reason Ski Aspen suggest starting your holiday here.

For the first run of your trip, head to West Buttermilk for a gentle and long warm up. With terrain that’s perfectly suited for you to get your ski legs back, you can’t get better than West Buttermilk.

After a few warm ups here, progress to the Summit Express chairlift and ski the many blue runs that take you across the front of Aspen Buttermilk. Have a coffee break at either the top or bottom of this chair or catch the (non-alcoholic) cider station to the right at the top. When you’re ready, its time to get back into some slightly more challenging terrain in the Tiehack area. The Aspen Buttermilk Tiehack area offers steeper Blues progressing into Blacks that will get you set for the rest of your holiday.

For lunch, the best choice is the Cliffhouse where you have a wide range of cuisine – our favourite being the rice or noodle bowl options. You build your own lunch by choosing what you want from a veggie cart, then hand over your bowl to a chef and select from the meat and sauce options – then prepare for a taste sensation!

As you’ll discover, Aspen Buttermilk is a great introduction to the resort. Perfect terrain to start your ski holiday, excellent food, fantastic guest services and if you time it right, high-flying acrobatics from the Winter X Games all make for a memorable first day.

Day one of each Ski Aspen tour is at Aspen Buttermilk. View more on our tour options.
